Gareth T.’s journey in music began on the island of Tsing Yi, where he was inspired by the likes of Eminem, his British teacher, and the timeless melodies of Michael Jackson. These influences not only shaped his fluent English but also ignited a passion for music that led him to pursue his dreams at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. There, he honed his skills in contemporary music writing and production, as well as electronic music production and design, graduating in May 2021 with a Bachelor’s degree.
Since 2018, Gareth has been making waves as an independent artist, releasing singles across various platforms. His debut English single “Faith” and subsequent digital EP “18” showcased his raw talent and set the stage for what was to come. In 2020, he joined independent label Umami Records and released “Best Me I Can,” a heartfelt tribute to his grandmother.
A serendipitous meeting with Nicholas, the head of Hip Hop + R&B at Warner Music Hong Kong and a renowned rapper himself, led to Gareth signing with Warner Music in early 2021. This partnership has allowed him to maintain his creative freedom while reaching new heights with his music. His first English single under Warner, “Boyfriend Material,” quickly garnered over a million views on YouTube within four months, followed by the equally successful “Speed Limit,” “Honest” (a duet with Moon Tang), and his debut Cantonese single “Jin Lang Man Chao Wen Xing.”
Gareth’s versatility as an artist extends beyond his own music. He has collaborated with various artists as a composer, including contributing to tracks like “The Last Dusk” by Zhang Wei Er, “Master Class” by Keung To, “December” (co-created with Tyson Yoshi), and even making a cameo appearance in the MV for MIRROR’s “12.”
In 2022, Gareth made the move to An Asiatic Records, a subsidiary of Warner Music (Asia Pacific), and released his debut album “To Be Honest.” The album’s English single “Confidence” debuted at #20 on the Metro Radio Hit Explosion Foreign Chart, further cementing his status as a rising star.
